Hey there fellas, first time posting here so I hope I'm doing this right.
My cat is a young shorthair breed of about 9 months old. I love him to death but recently he's gotten a rash around his eyes. A week ago it was barely noticeable, but now it's grown to be pretty visible with some bad zits around the area.
I obviously didn't sit on my ass over it, I sent pictures to my vet on day one worried it was something serious. He said it's likely an allergic reaction, he gave me some cream for it and I applied it daily, no change.
I called another vet, told her that, and she suggested to bring him to her.
Now here's the issue, a few months back we took him to a vet to get his shots and he went mad, starting meowing like crazy and beating up the cage as soon as we took it outside, not to mention him being terrified at the vet.
Since then hes been negatively conditioned to it and at the slightest look of the cage he goes absolutely bonkers, and any attempt to get him into it makes him hide for hours.
I asked our vet if she could come see him, she agreed but the costs of that are over triple what they are if I take him to her and I honestly cannot afford that kind of expense.
I acknowledge the negative conditioning is on me, but now I just don't know what to do. I can't bring the vet here, I can't take him there, and the medication I've tried seems to not work, any more serious medicine would need me to take him to the vet.
All the while, I'm afraid I don't have time to positively acclimate him to his cage, since his illness seems to be getting worse, despite removing any real irritant that might be causing it.
I am deeply, deeply grateful for any help I can get, thank you.
