I am having a ton of difficulty with pet adoption, and am ready to consider purchasing.

Am I wrong? I want to do the right thing, but the process of pet adoption is long, invasive, and seems to always end with unavailability.

To boot, most of the sites say “please don’t ask if this dog is available. If it’s on the site, it’s available.” Twice I have been asked for credit card information and gave up, because there was a whole bunch of legal stuff and I don’t want to lose the money. It costs almost as much as what breeders are asking for AKC purebred puppies. What gives?

If anybody has any advice I’d love to be able to “adopt don’t shop”. Thanks in advance.
