I recently adopted two older cats, who as far as I know have always used the litter box.
I bought a covered one, and wasn't too sure how they would react to it, so left the lid off for a while. It turns out that one is super messy, and kicks litter everywhere, so I was really looking forward to getting the lid on.
I put the lid on today, and the other cat clearly hated it. He's not very messy, but refused to use it, and instead opted for pooping outside the open gap. (I left the door off for a slow transition)
I don't know what to do. I'm happy to get another box, and was planning on doing so anyway. What I don't want however is one open and one covered, and the messy cat only using the open box.
Any advice?
