My 3 y/o cat suddenly realized she looooves me!

By no means is this a complaint. I’m looking at my sweet girl right now as she settles down on the edge of the bed. Just minutes ago, she patiently waited for me by the doorway, as if to say, “C’mon, you big gangly naked cat. It’s bedtime.” Later tonight, she’ll fall asleep in the curl of my back or use my stomach as some supreme body heat. In the morning, we’ll wake up and she’ll “mew” at me, saying hello.

Thing is, she’s never been this attached to me before. She was always somewhat independent, with instances of affection here and there. Maybe she’d surprise us with a cuddle or head butt, which was always a delightful treat from her; otherwise, she’d go off on her own and keep a single eye open as she fell asleep. We rescued her at 8 weeks old so she’s known us her whole life, but after she grew out of kittenhood, she’s been an at-distance-unless-I-say-otherwise kinda gal.

So between ages one to three (for two years) she was pretty independent. Suddenly at 3 years old, it’s like a switch flipped in her brain: it’s as if she realized that she loves me sooooo much. Idk. Maybe my years of giving her space and respect finally paid off. Maybe she’s finally out of her adolescent phases and is ready to be the cuddly lil girl she’s meant to be.

Not sure, but I love it and can’t wait to snuggle with her every night! ❤️

PS — I know some people might suggest that a change in behavior is a sign of illness, but I’m happy to say that she’s the picture of a healthy cat. I always keep an eye out for this stuff, but we also have a regular vet where we’ve been told she’s a healthy weight with healthy poops (and has the silkiest fur in the world).
