Hi,
I recently (almost 2 weeks ago) adopted a 1.5 yr old cat (came to the shelter as a stray) and I've noticed that he seems to become angry with me and try to "punish" me if I do something he doesn't like. He lunges at me, swatting with his hands/claws and biting. He seems to aim for my face when possible and reaches up and even bites my thigh if I'm standing. It's all very ferocious and jarring.
This usually happens when he is misbehaving (howling, scratching on people's doors, begging for food) in the main area of my apartment and then I move him to my bedroom with me if he doesn't stop. Basically, he does it when he misbehaves and then still doesn't get his way.
I've been playing with him a lot (with toys, not my hands) and that seems to help get out some of the violent energy and he does get a lot of Whole Apartment Time to run around... it's practically unlimited unless he starts acting up out there. I don't fight him back when he does this, I just try to disengage. He also seems to calm down and forget about it very quickly. Why does he think this is okay to do? Am I supposed to be somehow showing him that I'm the boss when he does this? He gives me so much attitude.
He also was only neutered three weeks ago, is it possible some of this male energy will leave his system?
