new cat won't stop meowing when he is seperated from me

so i got a new cat a little over two weeks ago, Zidane

I have a second cat whom I've had for a while, Ashe

and together we live in a 500 square foot apartment.

existing cat doesn't yet get alone with new cat and so I have them seperated. one cat gets each half of hte house seperated by a screen door that i have set up to block the hallway between them.

Ashe is happy wherever, but for reasons Zidane has to be allocated to the back half of the apartment which is the bedrooms, and so Ashe is in the living area of the apartment.

My issue is that I try to spend equal time between each half of the house, to be with each cat, but when I'm in the living area and the house and Zidane can't get to me, he'll cry for hours. I actually have to wear noise canceling headphones so i can get some relief from the noise while I'm spending time with ashe.

But like i said I live in an apartment, I have neighbors below me. usually we can't hear each other except in the hallway area we can hear each other through the floor there.

This is the area that Zidane spends the entire time crying when I have to leave him alone. I can handle the noise with the headphones (though I have tinnitus so wearing noise cancelling headphones causes it's own issues lol) but I'm sure my downstairs neighbors don't appreciate the sound of my cat crying for an hour straight while, say, I'm cooking in the other half of the house.

And I don't think it'd be fair to she if I spent most of my time at home in teh back half of the house just to keep Zidane quiet either.

Any tips on how to help him so he's not crying the whole time he's separated from me?

Also just remembered to add that I am using feloway plugins but it's only been a few days.
