Newly adopted older cat crying throughout the day?

We adopted Simon about 4 days ago. He is 12 years old and has glaucoma but is still able to see fairly well. He seems to be doing well adjusting and getting along with our 2 younger females. The only issue is he keeps having crying spells throughout the day. He tends to start to wander into rooms and then proceed to start crying for about 10 minutes straight. He has been doing this a few times an hour and it is def. hard as I am a student and am trying to study.

Do you think this will go away and he is still just nervous about where he is? I believe he was with his previous owner for about 10 years but she gave him away due to being elderly and not being able to take care of him. I have tried holding him which does make him stop crying as well as ignoring the cries. He doesn't seem to be crying for attention so I don't know what else I could do to help him.
