Hey everyone.
First thank you for all the suggestions on how to help with my dogs "diaper rash". Original post here
Second, he's doing really well and I wanted to let you all know. TL;DR he actually stood up and took a few steps tonight!!!
We saw the vet a few days ago and she was cautiously optimistic that he'd be able to walk again. At the time our doggo had been able to move all four legs but not put any weight on them. She said the progress was good but that some dogs "stall out" at this stage and never fully recover.
So tonight when my kid dropped some food on the floor and doggo actually stood up for a second we were pretty excited. And just a few min ago the poor dude (who is so sick and tired of peeing on puppy pads) decided to stand up and try to walk to the door.
He didn't make it far and laid back down after a few steps but we pulled out the sling my brother gave us and helped him outside.
We'll need to watch him really close now cause he could hurt himself more by straining too much. Thankfully I work at home and can keep an eye on him.
Lastly, concerning rash, we've discovered that bath time in the kiddie pool in the middle of the living room is messy fun for the while family. Including my toddler who wants to help "clean his doggie". It's more of a sponge bath but it's fun and he's happier afterwards so we've been doing it every 2-3 days.
The vet recommended aquaphor or vasaline as a barrier cream. And since our pup was unable to lick himself at the time (meaning he can't injest any cream we use) the vet said that any over the counter diaper cream from the baby aisle would be fine to treat his rash. So the rash is basically gone and should prob disappear completely in a few days now that we can get him outside to go potty.
Just wanted to let you all know and say thank you!!!
