Please give me some advice

Today me and my mom (I'm 16) finally decided to give back one of our two dogs back to the humane society after a year of having him. When winter came, he became increasingly destructive due to the colder weather. My mom and I are gone half of the day due to work and school, and while we're gone, he has destroyed the frames of 5 doors trying to get in. We live in California so the coldest it got during the day was probably like 60°F and he has access to the dog room with his bed. After countless efforts to train him, we finally decided we couldn't afford to keep him, and it broke our hearts to have to give him back. I love him so much, and I hate the idea of not seeing him again.

My question is, is it a good idea to regularly visit him at the Humane Society? Will it make him more depressed? I want to make sure that he gets adopted again and have a happy life, but if me visiting him will affect his behavior negatively, I don't want to interfere. The people at the Humane society are very nice and will do everything they can to train him to not be destructive.
