Seeking an alternative solution

Recently, we found out that one of our cats has a malignant cancerous tumor under her tongue. The vet said that this particular type of cancer is aggressive and limited options are available. Our cat is almost 13 years old and is otherwise very cat-like. She is loved, especially by our two young daughters who can't understand why mommy and daddy scheduled a home appointment for tomorrow with a vet to put her to sleep. Has anyone dealt with this type of cancer before? If so, is there any possible last recourse we could do outside of surgery and chemotherapy? FYI, we would otherwise be open to the surgery option, but does that said that they would have to remove at least half if not all of her tongue. Knowing how important the tongue is for grooming and such, we decided we can't ask her Kitty to live without a tongue, and concluded that the most appropriate thing would be to put her down 😞
