I know. This probably isn't the best place to talk about this but I was just hoping to get at some insight from other people's experiences. I had a cat named comet who I loved. About 7 months ago she disappeared. I've been a bummed out wreck since. She was basically my first child and she had disappeared a week after we got a new dog. I'm not sure if she ran away or got eaten by a coyote. we also are worried she could have been stolen cuz apparently she's some rare breed and color of Maine Coon and the area we were living in had a lot of crime. (She was neutered)
I tried to do everything I could to give her her own space when we brought the dog. she had the whole bedroom to herself during the day but at night we would let all the animals sleep with us. So we would let her go outside and we would leave the window open. our landlord would always let their cat outside and had never had any issues. But one night she didn't come home.
we recently moved to a different city and bought a house (which made me feel even worse). we're going to rent out a room to a friend of ours who has a very good Australian Shepherd. The Aussie is two but he acts like a 10 year old. He's very mellow and very smart. My golden retriever is used to cats because he spent most of his early life with our cat. My puppy is not used to cats but she is extremely friendly I don't think she would attack a cat she used to try to play with Comet it would just take some time for her to learn that cats don't like to play like dogs.
I've been checking the shelters every other day since that happened. She is chipped. I see all these great cats who could use a home. I miss my cat so much it hurts. And frankly I really miss having Kitty love. I see so many great cats that I would love to take home. But I am a little worried about it being cramped with three dogs and three people.
We don't need to get a kitten. I was hoping to find an older cat who's used to dogs (by old I mean like 3 or 4). Has anybody had sucess with shelter cat or kitten with alot of dogs around?
