Hello. I have a female pitbull mix that's 7-8 months old. She's been dewormed, eats puppy chow regularly, and she's not been fixed.
Recently, she's been going to the restroom to pee a lot more than usual. Her usually active and energetic nature has decreased to just laying around and sleeping on/off all day. She's also been licking at her private area a lot.
Within the last couple of days, I've woken up to her licking her private part and when I examined it, there's a dark rusty orange color on and around the private area. It's not like she has discharge or some other fluid caked onto it. It's more like the color of her fur has changed.
It'd been a long time since I owned a dog, and I had a boy pitbull at the time, so this is my first time with a girl. I don't want to take her to the vet if it's not something serious like a infection of sone sort.
Could this be a infection? Is she in heat?
