He's very old, and has been moving much slower than usual. He has had a tumour under his belly which has gotten progressively worse over the past month. I contacted the vet and explained the situation, and they said they couldn't take him in just now. They gave me advice to look up online a euthanising technique that used bicarbonate of soda with white vinegar to create co2, and effectively euthanise him with as little as pain as possible. I attempted this with an aim for him to pass in 30 minutes. 2 hours later and he was still breathing very rapidly. I felt absolutely awful and couldn't believe that it hadn't worked, I felt so bad for the poor guy. I followed the method exactly, after researching through websites and YouTube videos. I looked closely at the tub he was in and he let out a squeal, and I couldn't stand to see him like that. I've taken him out and he's back in his cage, and after 15 minutes he seems pretty much the same way he was before I attempted the euthanasia. Was I given horrible advice like I suspect? Should I proceed to try the method again? Is he okay, now that he's free, or will there be lasting effects for his brain and lungs?
I'm really sorry if I have offended anyone with this post, I literally just don't know what to do. Thanks.
