I (22F) want to get a cat after losing my childhood cat and best friend of 17 years, but my boyfriend (21M) thinks it’s too early... I got my cat when I was 5 years old and she passed away at the end of April this year, I feel like I have processed her passing and now I want to get a kitten but he thinks it’s too early; does anyone have any advice for me? Is it too early? I yearn for the companionship of a cat, it just feels strange not having a one in my home... My sister’s cat had kittens and they will be ready to take home at the beginning of July, I am tempted to just bring one home but I am worried it could have a negative effect on our relationship. (I should also mention that he had wonderful relationship (~6 years), massive love for her and he was hurt almost as much as I was when she passed) I don’t want to hurt him, but I also NEED a cat for my anxiety and depression and he doesn’t understand that. It has just been so difficult without her. Anytime I attempt to bring it up it just gets shot down and I get accused of dishonoring her memory. Any advice will be appreciated, thank you so much in advance.
