I’ve never previously owned a cat so I just don’t get it. We didn’t plan for it but ended up with a cat that needed a home. She was used to being an outdoor cat so we were trying to coax her inside. Big ice storm hit and we made the cat stay inside. But we had no litter box (poor planning, I know) and no idea if she’d even know how to use one. We filled a small storage tub with sand from our kids’ sand box and she took to it right away. So we decided to get her a real litter box and litter. She used litter in the makeshift storage tub, so I don’t think litter is the issue (could totally be wrong here) but she will NOT use the real litter box. It’s nothing fancy, not enclosed or anything very different from the stupid storage tub. Last night she pissed on the carpet instead of using the litter box. Fluorescent yellow piss (is that normal btw??).
Why might a cat turn their nose up at a potential poo location? Should I just resign myself to the storage tub as a permanent litter box?
