Hi all! I’d really love to get a cat, but what’s been keeping me from it for years is that I live in a high rise condo built in the 1960s with a funky wall unit HVAC in every room. It’s basically a wooden half wall around the unit to cover it up, but the wall stops about 6 inches above the floor. So essentially, it’s this cavernous box that has just enough of a gap under it for a cat to squeeze into and then I’d have no way of getting it out.
I fostered a cat a couple of years ago as a trial, and sure enough she almost immediately went under the HVAC and I had to call building maintenance to get her out. I tried stuffing things under it to keep her out, but she was still able to squeeze through, it was an eyesore, and likely a fire hazard.
Any potential fixes to keep a cat from getting under there? I’d really love to rescue, but I just don’t want the stress on a cat or myself to have to constantly keep them out of there.
