Adopting a puppy when single and working FT is out of the question... But what about an adult non-house trained dog?

A puppy would be too hard, but what about an adult that isn't house trained?

Adopting a dog means house training no matter what and will take effort, but does a nonpotty trained dog put it on the same level as a puppy?

The breed may matter, so for reference, I'm looking at getting a 2yo German Shepard mix (unknown what it's mixed with. Smaller than normal Shepard size though)
