My 10-12 year old siamese cat has, over the past year, started licking her fur excessively to the point that the area is soaking wet. It has reached the point where I think she's thinning the hair on her chest. The main areas she focuses on are her chest and her front paws (she tends to eat with her paws), and less frequently she'll soak one full side of her body. When she gets like this I brush her to dry her and clean her up and she enjoys it so much I would almost suspect she's doing to to get brushed. She'll do it after eating, using her litter box, and maybe around noon generally.
The main health factor that has me especially concerned is that she has been diagnosed with Triaditis and has been taking 5mg prednisolone for it for maybe 5 years.
I've looked it up and I've seen it could just be boredom and lack of stimulation which is possible, but with her underlying health condition I'm just worried it could be a symptom of something else.
I plan to take her to the vet soon, but I'd appreciate any input or advice from reddit in the meantime. Thanks!
