UPDATE: If your Vet offers Proheart, be sure to go over the risks

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Pets/comments/bo3hdr/if_your_vet_offers_your_pet_proheart_be_certain/

Today is Day 15 since George received the Proheart 6 injection. Since my original post he developed a couple of new symptoms (severe blistering of ears) but has gotten much better. Only over the past three days has he really returned to himself. Only in these past few days has he given kisses, shown interest in food, and played with our other dog, which we have been so happy to see these behavior return. This further implies the Proheart as the culprit as the drug peaks between 7-14 days. Our new vet has been wonderful throughout this and reported all of it to Zoetis (maker of Proheart). He was confident that the the Proheart was to blame and that it caused a GI tract injury (which Proheart eventually admitted was common) and a kidney injury. They have reimbursed us for most of the costs ($430) for which we are very grateful considering this all happened while we were moving and in between jobs. They also agreed that he should have never been offered the drug given his previous history of anaphylactic shock.

I know this is only one person’s story but always always be sure your vet goes over any new medication with you (which our original vet did not) especially if your pet has a history of severe reactions. Take care!
