Adoption place gave us a rescue cat and didn't tell us

Hi, About five months ago my boyfriend and I adopted a kitten (a few months old at the time) from an adoption center. It was one of those pricey ones where they check your house etc before they let you adopt. The kitten we wanted didn't have any info about her and they said her foster wouldn't be in town until next week. We adopted her anyway because she was acting really sweet at the time. We come back home and after having her for a few days she immediately is very aggressive, constantly switching between being sweet and attacking us, and I have felt constantly scared of this kitten in my own home. We have kept her for so long because we thought it was just because she's an overactive kitten and she'll get over it. We play with her daily, give her good food, plenty of scratching areas and places to climb/hide/run etc. Well I scrolled far back down on the adoption places IG and found a post about her- she was a rescue cat from an abusive owner. This explains why she is always so aggressive.. I have never handled this situation before and this cat should have gone to someone who can actually take care of her!! So I'm at a loss because I don't know what to do. At this point I'm tired of it, all my furniture is ruined (we even tried claw caps), and I can't have guests over because she attacks. She'll be making bread on me one moment and then full on attacking me when I don't even move! But on the other hand I still love her. I just am upset because this cat needs special attention and I have never dealt with this before. What do I do???
