My dog (9 year old cocker spaniel) had a 5cm tumor removed from her chin on Tuesday, and she’s had a cone of shame since then. She was throwing up on Thursday because of her antibiotics but she’s alright now, but yesterday I noticed she’s been licking the inside of her collar. Right now she’s been at it for over half an hour, just licking and licking constantly, and it’s driving me insane! I’m guessing it’s just anxiety, as she’s been really antsy and uncomfortable with the cone but we can’t take it off or else she’ll scratch the wound. Any ideas as to why she’s doing this? The cone is clean, it has nothing on it, and she doesn’t have anything on her wound that might be rubbing off on it. My worry is that her saliva might go on her wound and get it dirty or infect it.
