I've had to buy a pressure doorbell doormat as my almost perfect dog doesn't actually bark when he wants to go out, much easier to just stare at the door silently! It works brilliantly for the dog, however the cat uses it as her personal let's annoy mummy machine! She uses a litter tray, has a bad foot which gets worse in cold weather and generally likes to be an indoor cat, I think she like the noise and attention, anyone got any ideas on how to deal with this?
