One indoor cat or two?

I’m moving into a duplex apartment soon and looking at getting an indoor cat once I’m settled. My worry is that they’d be lonely on their own all day? I work mon- fri, usually out of the house 8am to 4:30/5pm. I won’t be out too much apart from that so can give them plenty of attention when I’m about. I have plans for vertical space and the weird layout of the place allows for it naturally anyway. I’ve seen people mention making sure they can see out of a window but unfortunately my place is at the back of the building so not great views.

Would one cat be fine in their own, or would it better for them to have company? It’s a small apartment but being over two floors should give them their own space if they need it at times.
