Coming home to my childhood dog is the most bittersweet thing in the world

I left for college 5 years ago and never moved home and we got her about 6 years prior to that. I’ve always loved my dogs and she is truly a cool dog. She will play fetch all day, every day and will “talk” to you when she’s excited or likes the music playing. And she is ALWAYS so excited when I come home and honestly it’s my favorite part of coming home. All I want is to take her home with me because I know she is getting old and this year in our game of fetch I could see that she has actually slowed down when she runs and it makes me think there’s only about 5-8 years (assuming she stays as healthy as she’s been) left and all I want to do is bring her home with me. But she is so protective of me and my boyfriends dog is also very protective of me so I know it wouldn’t work (especially because they are both over the age of 10)

I wish I could see her more than I do
