I wanted to give an update about a dog that I posted earlier. We brought her to the vet to get x Ray's done and we found out she's a middle aged dog and has had the injury for a long time, atleast a few years. The vet had a paralyzed dog years ago so she was able too relate on the situation. She told me it's my decision. The dog is uncomfortable and will need one of the legs amputated because it's completely not functional.
Believe it or not the other back leg seems to be somewhat functional and with therapy she might be able to use it again, might. It's a big responsibility and she said she doesn't blame me if I wanted to euthanize, that it wouldn't make be a bad person. I ended up getting some flea prevention and sleep aids for her just because I know she can't get comfortable at night.
She's going to be a dog that has to wear diapers and there's a good chance she will be in a wheel chair all her life. I don't know if I'm up for the challenge because of all the animals I currently have, it will be like taking care of a baby. I want to gain ownership from the shelter and try finding a rescue that is willing to work with her, or if I do decide to take on the responsibility I have an awesome vet and many of my Facebook friends said they'd help donate to a go fund me if I needed the money.
I work in a grooming salon so after the vet I went to visit my co workers and they were the first people I told. Every single one of them wanted me to put her down, saying there's no point and her life wouldn't be fulfilled since she can't hold her bladder and walk. Also one of them kept telling me even a rescue would put her down. So I'm a little paranoid I know I want to try atleast. I just hope I can show this dog what being happy is like. I am afraid shes going to be one of those unfixable dogs that is too far gone. I can't tell if she's happy. She just flattens her ears when I go to pet her.
