How do i make my bunny feel safe?

So my family and i got this female bunny about two-three months ago, now she is a year old or so. We got her from another home where they had two small children, and its obvious that they didnt know how to handle a bunny correctly. When she arrived at our home, she was so scared we couldnt approach her a meter close (sorry if that doesnt make sense, english is not my first language) without her running away or attacking and growling. Thankfully, Maia (thats what we named her) got used to us quickly (my family and i are experienced pet owners) and stopped growling and attacking that much. Although that was a nice progress, she doesnt let anyone pick her up or pet her for too long. We pet her as gently as we can, give her as much attention as we think she needs, but still, after a bit, she bites and scratches.

Help us please, any advice from other bunny owners is useful!
