I have two cats that are a bonded pair and live indoors. One of them couldn't care less about going outside and the other is crazy about it, specifically in the morning. He meows and leads me to the door and stretches up for the doorknob in an attempt to get his dumb human to understand what he wants. Recently he's gone Shawshank Redemption and has begun slowly making his tunnel to the outside world. That is, he's started scratching at the carpet right next to the front door. Most of the websites I've looked at have mostly given advice in the context of a cat scratching the carpet to sharpen claws, but I don't think that's what's going on here.
Does anyone know why he might be doing this and good tactics to ensure this stops? For context, I was letting them out here and there when it was nice weather but it was months ago! Also he seems to only do this in the morning. He'll maybe try to dart out in the evening but he just runs to the driveway and starts rolling around (very easy to wrangle him). Otherwise if I sit down he comes and sits on my lap and doesn't seem to care too much about getting outside.
