This is a new behavior, started in November. The cat is 10 year old, male and an outside cat. We don't have a problem if he goes out and stays for at least an hour or whatever. But lately he wants to come back after 5 minutes like he forgot that it is cold outside. Then when inside after 10 minutes he wants to go out again. This usually starts after 7 pm, during the day, no change in his behavior.
Now I have to lock him up in one of the other rooms, because simply I can't sleep quietly anymore with this constant coming and going. I have 2 suspicions:

Cat dementia. This is an older cat, maybe he is just getting demented.

Kidney problems. We have 2 litter boxes in the house (he can pee anytime when he wants) and during the day he is his usual self. Sleeps well, etc.
Any ideas what else could cause this annoying new behavior?
