Background: So this past November I went to the shelter with the intention of buying a male cat. I found one that was friendly, and the sheet said he was 4 yrs old. This seemed like a good fit... until I brought him home and realized how much energy he had for a “4 year old”. When we visited the vet in December I was told he was roughly 10-11 months old! My cat seemed to be adjusting well, I bought him toys and a cat tree, I’ve got loads of windows in my apartment, but now it seems like the honeymoon phase is over. He’s climbing everything, but I’m mostly concerned with my shower curtains (plural because he keeps climbing and tearing them in half) and my clothes. When I gets in my room he goes to the closet and jumps up on my clothes and climbs them until they fall off the hanger. He’s also climbed up my jacket, which hangs on the back of the door. I just feel at a loss. I now keep my bathroom and bedroom doors closed. If you have any suggestions on how to help that would be great. I play with him very regularly and have some toys he loves, including a laser pointer. TIA
