I have a lab/pit that we rescued a few months ago. We believe she was hit by a car. She can still use her back legs to walk around it just doesn't look normal. The vet said she was incontinent. We soon found out that she new when she had to go, just couldn't hold it. We used diapers for a while but she started chewing them up. I tried learning how to express her bladder but I could never figure it out, and she doesn't like it when we mess with that part of her body and will bite. We recently moved to a new house and have carpet. She favored a corner for about a month so we used puppy pads. Now I've been noticing wet pee spots here and there that aren't on the pads, and she's a walk and pooer. So she will start on the pads but walk off them and still make a mess on the floor. I don't know what to do at this point. She's my first special needs dog. I am gone for ten hours during the day atleast. She enjoys her space and does seek affectionate every now and then but for the most part she's on her bed. She's an older dog. We believe around 7 ish. I take her out before and after work of course but even during the six to eight hours I'm asleep she will go. I would like some advice, I don't want to kennel her if I don't gotta but even a large ex pens might be an option at this point. Is they're anyone else with a problem similar? My co-workers still think I should put her down. That is not an option. She has proven over the last few months from recovering from starvation and broken bones that she's a fighter. She now acts the same as just about any dog her age would. And she loves our other dogs, just a little food possessive but we're working on that.
