I have a 5 year old female cat who has stopped using her litter box recently. A week ago she was having diarrhea so I took her to an emergency vet. They didn’t find anything really wrong with her, prescribed some medicine and sent us on our way. A couple days later her diarrhea was still persisting so I took her to my regular vet. They also didn’t find anything wrong and said to just monitor her.
After a couple days her behavior returned to normal and her poop was normal too. Except she stopped using her litter box. She started pooping and peeing around the house and I’m almost at my wit’s end. We got a new litter box, new unscented litter, moved the location, but she’s still not using the box. I’m trying to retrain her by rewarding her with treats when she goes in it, but that’s difficult when she doesn’t step foot in it in the first place. She’s acting completely normal except for this problem.
