Hi guys, I’m planning on calling my vet tomorrow morning regarding this especially if it continues on, but I wanted to ask for any advice to help see if maybe I’m overreacting or if it’s more serious than I thought.
Today when I got home from work I started cooking dinner, and my cat was acting normal and playful, (she’s about 10 months old now)and when I started cooking, the dinner I made was tacos and I used some taco seasoning obviously in the meat, and it made my house smell overwhelming of seasoning (I live in a super small one bedroom and so it’s easy for the scent to cover my entire house.) When the smell hit though, my cat went into hiding under my bed which was unusual, and so finally when she did come out she was very scared and frantically running everywhere, then she started twitching a lot like in her back and excessively licking herself, paws especially.
I haven’t made tacos since I’ve had her until today so this is the first time she’s ever smelt this scent but my question is is that was the seasoning of tons of different herbs and spices from taco seasoning causing her to maybe have an allergic reaction? Or stressed from the overwhelming smell since cats are very into scent? Or maybe is this an issue that could be worse? It’s been a few hours now and she’s no longer twitching as much and calmed down but she is on and off licking herself quite a bit. I can’t think of what else it could be because I haven’t done anything differently besides cook this specific meal. I opened all my windows and tried to air out the place the best I could as well.
Sorry for the potentially dumb question, first time cat owner, but all advice is appreciated! ❤️
