Catio construction...

We're finally getting a patio built for our house, and I've been thinking of building a catio to go out on it for our 3 cats.

The problem being, at least initially, we're not going to have any sort of "sun protection" on the patio, like a pergola or canopy. Would possibly putting some sort of cover over part of the catio to provide shady sections be enough?

We've taken the cats out in the yard (supervised all the time,) and talk about three different personalities. 1. Oldest male cat hangs around near us, chewing grass 2. Female cat goes roaming the yard as far as we'll let her 3. Big male cat (black,) goes under an overhang from our back door in the shade and stretches out (gets cranky with us when we try to get him out to come in)

All 3 cats are fixed, as well.

As for the construction materials, I'm presuming non-pressure treated 2x4s painted to protect them some from the weather, chicken wire, and several levels within the catio wrapped in sisal rope / twine.
