So my friend has both a dog and a cat and they get along great. However my friend would like me to visit sometime and bring my dog along to hangout with hers.
Unfortunately my dog has a high prey drive and has chased a couple of cats out of my yard so obviously I'm concerned.
I'm thinking of having my dog meet her dog in the yard and maybe the cat will look out and see that there is a new dog in the area and be on alert. I'm hoping when my dog comes in the house the cat will hide before my dog can see it but I'm worried it will try to be friendly and my dog will chase it around the house until it figures out it can run into the basement.
The cat has a cat-sized door to get to the basement for the litter box.
Has anyone ever tried to introduce their dog to a cat? Any tips? Maybe my dog will learn that it's not a rodent and it doesn't have to chase it but I don't want anything bad to happen before then.
I also believe that if the cat were to swat my dog, my dog would actually back down .
