New cat

Tonight is the second night of having a new cat. Well early morning. We adopted a 4 year old cat from the humane society. He showed fearful tendencies and know it will take awhile for him to warm up and we have to take it at his speed. We have a safe room set up for him with all the necessities. We have a current confident 3 year old cat. They have had no interactions. Neither of them seem curious about the other cat through the door. Last night I woke up at about 3/4 am to the new cat caterwauling. I go in to check on him. He didn’t interact with me at all. So I left and let him work it out. You know first night in a new house. Well tonight I’m like okay I’ll let him get use to my presence. So I start sleeping in there and get woken up periodically to him caterwauling. I talk quietly to him trying to get him to settle down. But he just keeps pacing around and yowling. I grab from treats and try to give him one but he run and hides underneath something. Then he like growls at me! So I’m like okay I’m out of here. Even with me out of the room he keeps randomly caterwauling. I have Feliway coming in the mail so I’ll be putting that in the room when it gets here. But other than that I need some advice. It keeps waking me up and we have someone that lives below us. The walls are not thick so it’s easy to hear things between apartments. Thanks and sorry for the wall of text.
