Hello. To start off, we have two cats. One is three, the other is six. My bf and I moved into a freshly renovated apartment around 8 months ago. We bought new furniture for the place since it was the nicest place him or I have been able to live. Within a month they were tearing the couch apart. We did everything we could. We sprayed “scratch-off” on it, placed scratching posts and other scratching material around it, we put scratch preventative tape on it, used claw caps, yelled at them, etc. and they still would do it when we sleep. Within two months the whole arm of the couch was ripped from the sofa and is bare now. Since it is a new apartment, the carpet is brand new. They have been clawing into the carpet in random spots but have most recently been targeting the spot in front of the bedroom door. We have always closed the bedroom door at night since they get the zoomies at 3 a.m. and will run all over us as we sleep. Well three nights ago they started absolutely shredding the carpet in front of the door at night. We always get them fresh water and food before bed so it’s not them asking for food or water. But in just a few nights there is now a bald spot in our carpet the size of my fist. I feel beyond frustrated because while I love them, we have tried everything under the sun besides declawing them. I’m not sure what to do and if anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it.
