To give a little backstory : I have a pretty big space around the apartment complex I stay at and we had a kitten (Ginger) come into our complex during lockdown. It got acquainted with humans as we fed and played with it but it was still an outdoor cat. Around 4 months later 2 other kittens (Oreo & Pepper) started living in our complex. Initially they fought and Ginger was a bit teretorial but eventually they all lived together (all 3 males and outdoor cats). Around 2 and a half months later, Pepper died :( at this point Ginger was 7-8 months old. Now, 1 month after this incident Ginger suddenly disappeared from our complex, he used to wander off before as well but would always come back to eat and rest. Since then Oreo has started meowing a lot. He runs to me whenever he sees me and rubs against my legs, usually he would quiet down after being fed but lately he keeps meowing even after feeding. Only quiets down if I put him in my lap and pet. I'm concerned that he's depressed/sad. Is there a possibility he is grieving the loss of his play mates? Its not possible for me to take him to a vet, is there anything I can do to make him feel better?
