Will getting another cat cure mines boredom or pass on her new bad habits?

I have raised this lovely cat for 4 years. Since she was a kitten she had another cat in the house. My ex and I split 4 months ago and so she lost her cat friend and second closest human companion. After the change she became very food motivated. She will wake me with any means necessary. I've begun putting her outside the bedroom door once this behavior starts and just ignoring her cries until it is our regular food time. I understand the trauma that she's been through and am doing my best to help her through it. Quality time and play seem to help but still she just seems to be bored/ lonely when I'm not able to give her attention.

I've wanted to give her a companion. I truly believe that's what she needs. But, I'm also afraid by getting another cat now (most likely kitten) she will pass on some of these bad habits to the little one.

Have you had experience with this?
Is 4 months too soon?
Will a friend help give her the extra fun and companionship she's use too or should I try and find a way to resolve these morning crying spells before introducing another?

PS she loves kittens
