Adopting a dog without permission from landlord? (UK)

I just posted this in another subreddit but want to get as much feedback as possible.

My partner and I are seriously considering adopting a dog. We just moved into a beautiful home with a huge garden, in an area that has a park nearby, we are financially well-off and we don't have children. We would be first-time dog owners. He has had a dog in his adult life but his parents took care of it. That's some of our background.

I have non-stop been looking for the right dog for us. We have already been to shelters, but none seem right for us yet. And I am in no rush to get a dog that isn't compatible with us. But what if I find the right dog tomorrow?? The average time to re-home a dog is 8 days (according to the shelters we have been to).

So my problem is that all shelters require written permission from the landlord (if the property is rented, which it is, in our case) to house a pet. Our landlord lives in Dubai and doesn't want any contact with us so we have to go straight to the estate agents (who, I am sure, will refuse permission). And if I ask about it am also sure that they will be very suspicious afterwards and make more home visits.

I don't want to break the law and forge a document but I am so so set on getting a dog that I am willing to hide everything to do with the dog, should the estate agents ever need to visit the property.

Has anyone ever adopted/bought a dog and hidden it from their landlord/estate agents successfully? Of course I know that any damage to the property will be on me and I will have to pay. But it would be so worth it just to have an amazing addition to our lil family
