Hey everyone,
This Sunday my wife and I got an appointment with my local Humane Society to adopt an 8-years old cat that we've already met last weekend. While I've had cats in the past, I was much younger and it was my mother who had done the adoption, not me.
I want to make sure to avoid "beginner's" mistakes with my future new fluffy family member, especially considering it's a cat from a shelter. His story isn't too sad, he was simply in a home that was very stressful (two cats, three dogs, two kids) and he stopped using his litterbox (which he was sharing with the other cat), and his family rather than try to address the problem, abandoned him. The shelter believes it was a mixture of the stressful environment and having to share the litterbox with another cat because he's been good since at the shelter.
What are things that I should make sure to do, and make sure to avoid, when it comes to welcome a new cat in our home?
