Are there dog breeds that do better than others with long periods of alone time?

My partner and I want a dog. I work retail full time, and my shift varies, but I'm very rarely away for more than 7 hours. My partner also works retail, but part time. We occassionally are gone during the same period of time, so the pup would be completely alone for a considerable amount of time (no more than 8 hours, I'd pay someone to take him/her out and spend some time there if needed).

I am curious to know if some breeds do better with flexible schedules than others. It is my dream to have a husky, but I feel like that may have to wait until I work a predictable schedule and work closer to home. We wanted a puppy, but I understand that raising a puppy requires more time than we have at the moment. The last thing I want is to traumatize a puppy, lol. I'm thinking 3-5 years old is a good age for us, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Are there dogs that do better with this sort of schedule?
