Hi beautiful people of Reddit, have a question about introducing cats (Sorry for formatting, on mobile).
My girlfriend and I adopted a cat a few months back who’s this large loving and shy cat that lives at her place (peppermint). 3 months later I moved to a different city for school purposes and adopted my own cat (Sophie) because of how much I enjoyed the company. She’s more type “a”, adventurous but also very loving.
Now we’re having the 2 cats meet since she’ll likely be staying with my girlfriend the next few months (she has winter break and then the month after I have my winter break so I’ll be living w her) and we’re wondering the best way to introduce them. We made the mistake of letting my cat run out of her carrier and she has effectively scared the daylights out of her cat. Her cat is very timid and is very scared, hiding ect. My cat when she gets near him will growl and then hiss, has swatted a few times.
It’s a new environment for my cat so I think she’s terrified because of the move and now a new feline friend and so she just needs some time to adjust to the place. We’re thinking of getting the pheromone spray from petsmart but not sure if it’ll be effective. Anybody can chime in on the best way to at least keep them civil? Separate rooms is tough since we have a two bedroom apartment.
TLDR: my cat and girlfriends cat met for the first time (took my cat to my girlfriends apartment)...,my cat has been more aggressive. What’s the best way to introduce them?
