The specialist I went to has given me the option to either do a full exploratory surgery, or put her on prednisolone without knowing what it may or may not be treating.
I've got a 7 year old cat that one day just stopped eating. She's gone from 7 lbs to 5.5 lbs in a few weeks. She's always been pretty small, not food motivated at all, so I didn't think much of it at first. A few days go by with no food, we take her to the vet. The vet does an xray, gives anti-nausea, and an appetite stimulant.
We take her home, it seems to work for one day, then same thing happens. Few more days go by and we take her back to the vet. The vet is immediately worried and thinks it could be GI lymphoma(2 vets at the same clinic thought they felt a mass).
The next day I take her to an emergency specialist, and they do an ultrasound and check her levels, and then they tell us everything is normal. No masses, no inflammation, completely boring ultrasound. They tell me it's an extremely strange case, and my only options left are prednisolone, or a full exploratory surgery.
This was a couple days ago, I can't make a decision, and I just keep wondering if it's something temporary. I was given subcutaneous fluids for home, and I've been syringe feeding up to 5 ounces a day to keep her calories up.
Her only symptom is she simply won't eat. She seems to only be suffering the effects from that, and not an illness. She's weak and wobbly now from losing weight, and she seems tired and slow, but she drinks, pees, poops solid, scratches her spots, kneeds blankets, purrs when you pet her, doesn't vomit, sleeps at least 4-5 hours during the night. It's been basically 2 weeks since this started, and she's showing no other symptoms physically or medically. Any advice would be appreciated. I don't know what I'm looking for, just hoping to hear this happened to someone else and got resolved. Thanks for your time
