I'm flying home for the holiday, and I've decided to bring my 2 year old cat with me. Unlike some of the other cats in this thread, she isn't gigantic, but she isn't a kitten anymore either. I'm pretty sure she was about 12lb the last time we visited the vet, and she's not super fluffy (just regular domestic shorthair).
The normal carrier we use for the vet is ~20in long, 10in wide, and 10in tall; however, Alaskan airlines lists their maximum carrier size as 17.5in x 9.5in x 11in for traveling in the cabin (putting her in cargo is not an option). I've measured my cat and she will most likely fit in that amount of space, but it will definitely be tight and she won't have room to really stand up or move around.
Is that normal for taking cats on a plane? Is it bad if she's restricted to laying down while we travel, or is that the expectation?
