Going to have to put family cat down soon, need help/advice

I'm going home this weekend to say good bye to our cat that I grew up with, we will be putting him down soon. As I keep remembering good times with him and thinking about how much I'll miss him, I keep getting this thought about how ill never be able to love a pet as much as I did him. Does anyone have any experiences that could help me.
