One of my newly adopted kittens has decided she likes to go inside my grandfather's recliner. If it was up to me, the recliner wouldn't even be in the house, but it isn't up to me, so it's here to stay. But how can I keep the kittens out safely? I want to kitten proof it with some fabric, if my granddad will let me (he thinks I'm overreacting, but I would rather be safe than sorry). But I would prefer they don't even want to go near the chair.
I'm already planning to keep them locked in my room unless I am home to watch them, so this is more as a second line of defense and just in case.
I've read about the cat scat mats, but reviews on amazon seem to say they aren't actually effective. I've also heard about citrus sprays and stuff, but do those actually work? Is it safe for them, like if they decided to lick at it or something? What are other options that will make them actively dislike the recliner?
