Human food for cats and dogs?

I'm but sure this is the right subreddit for this question. Petadvice didn't seem to be what I needed.

Basically, what I'm looking for is human food that a cat and dog can both enjoy. I don't currently have any pets, but I'm getting a service dog in a couple of months and I'm thinking of adopting a cat in the coming weeks.

I know cats are carnivores and dogs are omnivores who prefer meat, and I know dogs can't have chocolate avocados. I know the obvious stuff.

But what I can't figure out is what people foods they can eat. I haven't found any sites with even remotely similar lists. About as close as I've gotten is nothing too acidic. Like chocolate. That's great. I learned that when I was five.

I'm not interested in feeding my pets the same food 3 times a day every day for 15 years. How would you like it if someone did that to you?

What can I feed them that's just from anywhere in the store? I want to keep them healthy, of course, and sure I'll buy them treats, but in general, would steak, and salmon, and chicken, and broccoli, and carrots, and pork, and all that work? What about milk? I've heard so many mixed opinions about cats and milk that I'm not sure what's true. Only when they're kittens; never, it's worse than cyanide; only when their old; doesn't matter, a cat's a cat.

I really hope this isn't a wasted post. Thanks in advance.
