Need advice on feeding two cats

I’ve been trying out everything these last few months to ensure that my two cats get their equal share of food, because my 8 month old kitten has always tried to steal my adult cat’s food ever since we got him. He knows it’s not his and that he’s not allowed to eat her food, but he tries every meal anyway. Our adult cat is a slow eater but we’ve trained her to finish her food faster (she used to take a whole day to finish a meal). But he’ll sometimes push her out of the way even while she’s eating, and the only thing that sort of works is sitting next to her food bowl and shooing him away whenever he comes over.

We’ve tried separating them, but we live in a one bedroom apartment and he’s not allowed in the bedroom or bathroom. We put the adult cat in the bathroom but she gets stressed and whines to be let out instead of eating. We use the spray bottle when he steals her food but that just means he does it when we happen to leave for like a minute. When we catch him and chase him away he’ll try to steal a piece of food with him.

We hired a cat sitter to look after them when we go on a trip soon, and because she’s visiting once a day, she’ll have to feed a whole day’s worth of food, and my adult cat will not be able to finish that right away. Which means as soon as the sitter has to leave, the kitten will steal her food. The sitter suggested a microchip feeder where you attach an RFID tag to a collar and it’ll recognize the cat and open the door to allow access to the food. So we’ve been getting our adult cat used to wearing a collar and so far it’s been stressful. She kept taking off the breakaway collar, so we got a buckle collar just to try it out (please don’t attack me for this, I know a breakaway collar is safer but I wanted to try all my options) and she wasn’t able to get it off, but she got her jaw stuck under it. She’s fine, thankfully, but I’m really frustrated because I don’t want to put her through this. I just want to make sure she gets her fair share of food because her brother is relentless in stealing it. We’ve exhausted all our options and I’m worried that we’re going to go on this trip and she’s not going to eat enough.
