Hi everyone, I recently found two stray puppies in my college campus. They had lost their mom, who had been unfortunately run down by a car. I took them under my care as nobody was willing to. To begin with, I've never raised orphaned puppies ever before, so I'm pretty uncertain as to what I have to do.
I've been feeding the puppies a home made milk replacer formula because I read online that cow milk is apparently not good for puppies. The formula I make however, contains cow milk because I haven't been able to buy goat milk or evaporated milk as none of the stores around me, including the online ones sell these (I live in India lol). The contents of the formula I prepare are as follows: 1) 1/2 cup of cow milk 2) 1/2 cup of water 3)2-3 egg yolks 4) 2 teaspoon of vegetable oil 5) 2 teaspoon of multivitamin syrup 6) 2 teaspoon of calcium syrup
The puppies seem to have a healthy appetite and I feed them 6-7 times a day but the problem however is that they seem to be having abnormal stools. Not exactly diarrhoea per se, but their stools aren't solid as well. It's more paste-like. And I see mucus in their stools as well. Also yesterday, one of the puppies passed a glob of mucus with his stools which was tinged with some blood.
I think its most likely that the cow milk is the culprit here, but I have no other alternative to turn to. I'm planning to use less milk and more water with the next batch I prepare.
Please help me and give me your inputs regarding the situation! I'm a broke college kid who is in the middle of her end semester exams right now and can't afford to a trip to the vet just yet. I mean if it comes down to that, I'm willing to take the puppets to the vet and have them checked. But I would like to first hear about and try all the other options you guys give me!
Also please give me any tips or useful information about raising orphaned puppies or just puppies in general. I want to make sure I do the best I can for the puppies!
Thank you so much for your help in advance :D
