Planning to adopt a stray cat, could use as much advice as possible!

I'm no stranger to caring for animals but this will be the first time I've adopted an animal since moving out of my parents' house, so she'll be completely my own responsibility. She's been living outside of my roommate's girlfriend's apartment since she was abandoned there in June, and they're guessing she's already spayed since they've never noticed her going into heat. But since we have no medical records for her I'm anticipating a lot of vet costs right upfront.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!! I'm very excited and I wanna make sure I do this right! Thanks. :)
